Have you seen any of these books around lately that deal with recipes taken from, or duplicated from the popular restaurant versions? This idea has always intrigued me, as I have often tried to duplicate some of my favorite restaurant recipes myself at home. Honestly I never really had very good results myself, but it wasn’t for lack of trying for sure.
I got 2 books online called “America’s Secret Recipes 1″ and “America’s Secret Recipes 2″ and now i’m off and running! My past failures weren’t because I wasn’t a good cook mind you, it was just that I didn’t know the recipe well enough and was often missing ingredients or using them in the wrong proportions.
My kids love it, though they would still prefer to go to the real restaurant for sure, they enjoy asking for all the different types. I sometimes ask, “OK What restaurant am I working for tonight?” and they have a great time discussing it and looking at the different options.
One other great thing about these recipes is that I am using much better ingredients and I am staying away from much of the frozen and preprocessed ingredients that I know many popular restaurants are using. So my food ends up even better than the real thing sometimes!
All in all, they are a great set of books, although a few of the recipes seem a little off, most of them are spot on just like the real thing.
