Birthday Cakes For Kids

When throwing a birthday party for a kid, having a good birthday cake can be important. It depends on the age really, as my children and even remembering back to my younger sister, would put alot of importance in the cake during a couple of years. I all depends on the age and what they value at that age I guess.

Health Conscious

Today people are so health conscious that it is sometimes hard to find something that everyone can agree on. Nevertheless, usually my daughter picks out what she wants. After all, her birthday is the one time of year where everyone celebrates her. She should have a choice of how it is done. My mother used to decorate cakes for my sister and I when we were young. There was certainly no one thinking about health then, unless someone happened to know they were diabetic.

Cartoon Cakes

My mother would make all sorts of cakes from either molded cake pans, or would create her own shapes if necessary. When she was making the cakes, she has made R2D2, StrawBerry Shortcake, My Little Pony, Holly Hobby, Superman, Mickey Mouse, Darth Vader and a bunch of others. Most of the cakes were from popular cartoon and comic characters from around the 80’s.

Help With Invitations

Well I am not about to bake my own cake, so we go someplace and get one. My daughter has asked twice now to help. This year I let her do the birthday invitations herself. We had just gotten back from the store where we were looking at birthday cakes, and she announced that she wanted to do her own birthday invitations. At first, I was naturally skeptical. My daughter is quite a creative girl, but she is not the most organized person, and she doesn’t have much of a sense of follow through. Often, she’ll start a project only to leave it neglected and unfinished. I figured that this would be the case with the birthday invites, but I let her take a chance and try it. I figured that we still had plenty of time to send out store-bought ones if she did not finish.

It turns out that the birthday invitations were amazing. She had particularly liked the way the birthday cake she picked out looked. It was covered with My Little Ponies, and quite well designed. She drew it on the birthday invitations, showing everyone that, if they came to her party, they would get a big piece of my Little pony birthday cake. Needless to say, this approach worked. Every single one of her friends showed up for her birthday celebration.

A Good Day Overall

It was not one of the best birthday cakes we ever got. It was a yellow cake, and nothing special. Nevertheless, my daughter is at that age when the only thing that is important is frosting. The birthday cake had frosting in abundance. It even has little ice cream cones filled up with frosting in different colors. The letters were made of candy, and almost everything on my cake was edible besides the candles and the My Little Ponies. Yes it had My Little Pony on it! How funny I thought, since my sister had a My Little Pony cake probably 25 years ago. Its interesting how things come full circle sometimes!
